New US Vessel Program "NSMV" Embraces Marine Floorings by the GTF Group

In January, the Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia initiated the keel laying for the fourth of five new, state-of-the-art training ships for America's state maritime academies. The new ship program of the US Department of Transportation (MARAD), known as National Security Multi-Mission Vessels (NSMVs), was designed to provide top-notch training for future American sailors and to support humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts in times of need.

All five commissioned ships will be equipped with ship deck coverings from the GTF group.

The ship deck coverings on the five ships cover a total of more than 55,000 square meters and consist of the ‚TEFROTEX® 90L ECC‘ and ‚TEFROTEX® 60 L‘ subfloor systems, as well as the ‚TEFRO®floor EP COATING‘ synthetic resin design floor.

The self-leveling subfloors from the TEFROTEX® series are lightweight and cure rapidly, allowing for the application of the final design flooring material in a short period. The chosen TEFRO®floor EP COATING as the top layer is a seamless and slip-resistant epoxy-based system. It is also lightweight, highly resistant to abrasion and water, as well as UV-resistant. All GTF flooring systems meet IMO certification standards.

TEFROTEX® 90L bears the Emicode label "EC1 PLUS," a protected environmental seal for exceptionally low-emission construction products. These products meet stringent emission standards and provide the highest level of protection against indoor air pollutants, ensuring maximum health safety and environmental compatibility.

The first ship of the new fleet, NSMV 1 "Empire State," was completed in September 2023 and has already been transferred to the Naval Academy in New York. Ships NSMV 2 "Patriot State II" and NSMV 3 "State of Maine V" are currently in the equipment or construction docks at the Philly Shipyard and are currently being outfitted, including the use of GTF ship deck coverings. The construction of NSMV 5 has not yet commenced.
